The department of Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned a Project to Food & Agri Business School (FABS) for (A Study on impact of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme on Agriculture (MGNREGS) in three districts of Andhra Pradesh one from each region of Rayalseema, Coastal Andhra and Telangana where MNGREGS is being implemented during last 4 years. The districts selected from each region are Vizianagaram, Nalagonda, and Kadapa.
Objective of the Study:
1. Demand for labour and on farm wages.
2. Cost of cultivation of farmers of different size classes.
3. To quantify the no. of days of employment and the pattern of employment generated under MGNREGS.
4. Investigates the nature of assets created through thee scheme & increase in productivity from them.
5. It will focus on the impact of MGNREGS on work habits and work culture of labour in general and agriculture.
The study will provide valuable insights into the less explored area of the impact of MGNREGS on agriculture. Study pertaining to Coastal Andhra region is completed, other regions it is still in progress.
Connected Agriculture - A Pilot Project on Sourcing Processes

Dr. K Prathap Reddy, Director, FABS has accepted an assignment with CISCO, Bangalore as consultant to their Connected Agriculture project.

Government of India through partnership with private industry - the Service Contract Agency (SCA) - is creating one lakh Common Service Centers throughout India. These are also called as Kiosks. Our assignment involves working with CISCO in:

Helping the SCA developing:
Potential Locations for opening the Kiosks, Potential Suppliers of Agri produce(Farmers), Sale Purchase Price spreads at Kiosks, Potential Buyers.

Helping CISCO in preparing a process document /manual on management of Kiosks: Includes managing purchase, ensuring quality through grading, managing payment to farmers, managing packing and loading produce, and most importantly managing the Kiosk’s finances and administration. The 6-months assignment had commenced in April 2009.
